The Sacrament of Reconciliation is a Sacrament of healing though God’s mercy. Jesus Christ, in His abundant love and mercy, established the Sacrament, so that we can obtain forgiveness for our sins and be reconciled with God and the Church.
Also commonly known by the names Penance or Confession, the Sacrament of Reconciliation provides a grace-filled opportunity to turn to our forgiving and merciful God. Recognizing that we are not perfect, we have the chance to express our sorrow for things we have done wrong, to heal broken relationships, to forgive ourselves and others, and to open up the channels of communication between ourselves and our Lord.
Reconciliation is above all a place of healing and liberation, not a place of judgment or punishment. It is a time and place in which we truly have the chance to reconcile us to God and begin to fully follow Him again.
Also, if it's been a while, please don't be scared or nervous. It's such a blessing to have people come back to Confession and be able to receive God's forgiveness after a long time away.
